Now that the NFL regular season has kicked off, it’s high time for the opening weekend of the sport’s top level to begin in earnest. While there is no Georgia sports betting for this year's NFL slate, BetGeorgia still has you covered on all the storylines across the league.
In places like Pittsburgh, questions have emerged about who will be the starting quarterback in Week 1 of the regular season, with veteran Russell Wilson suffering a calf injury in practice this week, upending the team’s depth chart ahead of their opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
That injury opens the door (perhaps) for fourth year quarterback Justin Fields to start the team’s opener, should Wilson not be able to suit up for the franchise against Atlanta.
Right now, Fields and the Steelers are listed as a 3.5-point road underdog against the Falcons on BetMGM Georgia, with a +150 moneyline for the visitors from the Steel City, compared with -180 for Atlanta.
With Wilson facing the injury, many are wondering if Fields will get the starting job this weekend. We developed exclusive odds to see if Fields will get the opportunity to play against the Falcons on Sunday.
Outcome | Odds | Percent Chance |
Starts | +100 | 50.0% |
Not Starting, But Plays | +150 | 40.0% |
Doesn't Play | +900 | 10.0% |

While we await the formal diagnosis on Wilson’s injured calf, it’s unlikely the veteran signal caller will be in the starting lineup on Sunday, which is why we list Fields as the presumed starter in Week 1.
Right now, we are giving Fields +100 odds of starting against Atlanta, compared to +150 odds that he doesn’t start - but plays at some point in the game and +900 that he rides the pine against the Falcons.
For now, Steelers fans can only hope that a change of scenery can unlock Fields’ first-round talent, as the 25-year-old out of Kennesaw has a 10-28 record since entering the league in 2021, with 6,674 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions to his name as the starting QB of the woebegone Chicago Bears.
While Fields struggled mightily with the Bears, he is only 25 and has amassed an approximate value of 35 in 40 career games in the league, giving longtime Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin good reason to remain hopeful should the young quarterback be needed in his home state on Sunday.
